Do You Suffer From Overactive Bladder?

Are You Controlling Your Overactive Bladder? Or is it Controlling You?

Bladder Facts

Approximately 33 million people in the suffer from a very common condition known as overactive bladder or OAB.  If you have been diagnosed with OAB you know the symptoms can affect your quality of life, self esteem, and social well being. Your symptoms may include any of the following:

§         Frequency – Urinating 8 or more times in 24 hours
§         Urgency – A sudden compelling desire to use the bathroom that is difficult to defer
§         Nocturia – Waking up at least once  during the night to urinate
§         Urge urinary incontinence – Wetting accidents

  • Common OAB Behavior Patterns
Many people with OAB exhibit common behavior patterns such as:

§         Becoming irritable or short tempered from lack of sleep
§         Performing poorly at work
§
Avoiding intimate situations
§
Mapping out bathroom locations in public places
§
Becoming anxious or depressed

It’s important to remember that OAB is a treatable medical condition. The first step to finding relief is talking to your doctor about your treatment options.

After a Diagnosis
If you have been diagnosed with OAB your doctor may have prescribed Detrol® LA or Ditropan XL®. While these medications are effective for some people, others find that they do not effectively relieve their OAB symptoms or they are unable to tolerate the side effects.

These side effects may include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Constipation
  • Drowsiness
  • Headaches
  • Blurred vision or dizziness
  • Diarrhea or nausea

If your OAB medication was not working and you have stopped treatment, you are probably experiencing a return of your symptoms. You may once again be avoiding social situations, becoming obsessed about the location of bathrooms in public places, avoiding intimacy or becoming irritable from a lack of sleep.

The Truth About OAB
There are many incorrect and misleading theories surrounding this condition. Not understanding the true causes of OAB and the treatment options available could delay finding relief for your symptoms. Knowing the truth about OAB is important.

Here are the facts:

  • OAB is not a normal part of aging
  • OAB does not only affect the elderly

  • OAB is not caused by childbirth, hysterectomies, menopause or weight gain

  • OAB is not the result of urinary tract infections

  • OAB is not caused by holding your urine in too long

  • OAB is not caused by drinking too much water

  • OAB symptoms will not go away on their own

Research Study Opportunity

If you’re one of the 33 million people in the who suffer from OAB,  your doctor may have prescribed Detrol® LA or Ditropan XL®.

Local physicians would like to know:

·         Are you satisfied with your current OAB treatment?

·         Is it effectively controlling your symptoms?

·         Do you tolerate the side effects?

No? There may be an alternative treatment that is right for you. A research study of an FDA approved study medication for the treatment of OAB is currently enrolling in your area. There is no placebo (sugar pill) involved in this study and all participants will be given active study medication. The study will measure the medication’s ability to control the symptoms of OAB as well as patient satisfaction.

All study-related care and study medication will be provided at no cost.
